DJ Profile: Leigh puts Gleave Dobbin in the spotlightGleave Dobbin has long been at the forefront of dance music in Northern Ireland.

At 14 years of age he was crowned NI DMC Mixing Champion and became a key part of dance music history in the Province. From his early residency at the notorious all-nighter Circus Circus, he built up a legion of fans that have faithfully followed his career throughout the days and very long nights of Heggarty’s, Kilwaughter House and Spank.

Voted No. 5 DJ in Ireland by the readers of Clubbing Dot Com, Gleave is a regular fixture on line-ups for Planetlove Festival, Global Gathering, Tidy Weekenders, Gatecrasher and Godskitchen events in Northern Ireland. His mixes have been aired across the nations on 2FM and BBC Radio One; one such mix being broadcast live from the Radio One New Years Eve event in Belfast where he performed a prime-time slot to over 20,000 party-goers. Spreading his wings beyond the confines of Northern Ireland, Gleave has entertained hordes of ardent dance music aficionados in Egypt, Finland and the clubbers’ paradise – Ibiza. During his time on the White Isle he played at some of the world’s most prestigious clubs including Privilege, Eden, Café Mambo, Summum and Sundance. In Mainland UK he is ranked as one of the leading nu-breed DJ’s and Producers with Mixmag shouting him as a Future Hero for 2004/05 – and rightly so! His productions have been caned by the biggest names in dance; with Pete Tong, Seb Fontaine, Fergie and Judge Jules collectively singing from the Gleave Dobbin hymn sheet. His ‘Penetration’ track, which is signed to Intensive Records, has been hammered out by the big guns, with the legendary PVD featuring it on his BBC Radio One Essential Mix. Gleave’s recent creations ‘Lights Out’ and ‘Pure Eyes’ have been snapped up by Detox and are receiving colossal support from Marco V and Eddie Halliwell. Teaming up with Phil Johnston and producing under the pseudonym Coast2Coast, Gleave has co-wrote a catalogue of heavyweight dance-floor stormers including the massive debut track ‘Home’, which clocked in at No.37 in the national charts and featured in Gatecrasher and Euphoria compilations. The follow-up track ‘B With Me’ was equally feted and has led the way for a whole host of successes for the duo including the powerful Gleave and Johnston remix of Fergie’s ‘Spin Energy’ which features on Ferry Corsten’s Cream compilation and Dance Valley compilation respectively. You can catch Gleave Dobbin playing live at Precious, Odyssey Pavilion every Friday night and Thompsons Garage on a Sunday night.

I am talking about the bit rate of mp3's, creating a mp3 file from a wav or recording a input straight to mp3 looses sound quality. The sound is clipped to reduce file size the lower the mp3 bit rate the more sound is clipped. If you view a spectral image of a wav file against a mp3 file you would see the difference, a wav file would be jaggy but a mp3 file would be flater.

As for your loud rips maybe you could use audicity to record from your device on your PC. I record straight from a tape deck using a rca to 3.5mm jack into the line in on my sound card. This helps reduce hiss and clips, I record with audacity and use normalise to increase the sound to the max without making the file distorted.

I would give U a demo if U wanted to call over...

Cheers

Pete
